How
a wedge contacts the ground is one of it's most important features.
The traditional wedge design has a
significant amount of "bounce" under the sole. This extra
steel under the sole is helpful in the sand but can lead to skipping
into the ball out in the fairway. On the Black Belt XL
wedges, the bounce angle changes at different locations along the
sole. The angle is
maximized at the center of the sole and reduced at the heel and the
toe. This design makes sure the ground contact comes below the club's
center-of-gravity. It also allows the face of the club to be opened
without lifting the club off the ground as much as a standard wedge
design. As a result, this wedge can perform well in the sand but is
now equally capable from the fairway and around the green.
